Biography

René Hunter is a Johannesburg-born vocalist with nearly three decades of live performance experience. She began singing professionally at just 14, balancing school by day with performances at night, and went on to build a career shaped by travel, versatility and a deep connection to live music.

In her early twenties, René performed in production theatre shows aboard European cruise liners, singing in English as well as French, Italian and Spanish. After years of international performance work, she spent three years in Thailand as part of a six-piece South African band before returning home and continuing as a freelance singer, both as a solo performer and in collaboration with other musicians.

Her sound is rooted in soul, with strong influences from blues, jazz, rock, R&B and pop. Inspired by artists such as Whitney Houston and Etta James, René brings warmth, power and emotional depth to her performances, adapting easily between intimate, elegant settings and more energetic live events.

Today, René performs across private functions, corporate events, hospitality venues and live music settings, bringing a polished, expressive and versatile style to every stage.
